Acceptable Use Policy — physmat.org

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") sets out what you may and may not do on physmat.org. It forms part of, and is read alongside, our Terms of Service. It should also be read with our Privacy Policy (how we handle personal data) and our Safeguarding Statement (how we respond to safety concerns).

This service is offered in the United Kingdom. It is not offered in the United States at this time, and we do not target US users.

1. Who this policy applies to

This AUP applies to everyone who uses physmat.org, in any role — children/students who practise on the platform, parents/guardians who create or manage a child's account, and teachers and schools who enrol and support pupils. It applies whether you use the website or any app, and whether or not you are signed in.

By using the platform you agree to use it only in the ways permitted here and in the Terms of Service. Where the user is a child, the parent/guardian or school that manages the account is responsible for helping the child use the platform appropriately.

2. Our content is our property

The problem bank, the problems and their solutions, tags, difficulty classifications, and the rest of the platform's content are our proprietary content and intellectual property (or licensed to us). Your account gives you a personal right to use this content for learning on the platform, as set out in the Terms of Service. It does not transfer ownership of any content to you.

3. Prohibited conduct

You must not do any of the following, and must not help or permit anyone else to:

Misuse of our content and platform

Scrape, crawl, or carry out automated or bulk extraction of the problem bank or any other part of the platform, by any means (bots, scripts, automated agents, or otherwise).
Copy, reproduce, redistribute, publish, resell, or otherwise commercially exploit our problems, solutions, or other content, in whole or in part, outside your permitted personal use on the platform.
Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the platform, or attempt to derive its source code, except to the limited extent this restriction cannot lawfully be excluded.
Circumvent, disable, or interfere with security features, access controls, rate limits, or any technical measure that protects the platform or restricts access to content or features.

Accounts and access

Share, sell, transfer, or otherwise make available your account or login credentials to anyone else, or use another person's account or credentials.
Attempt to access, read, alter, or delete other users' data, or any data, account, or area of the platform you are not authorised to access.
Attempt to identify or de-anonymise any other user, or to re-identify any data that has been anonymised or pseudonymised.

Harm to the platform or others

Upload, transmit, or introduce malicious code — viruses, malware, or anything designed to disrupt, damage, or gain unauthorised access to the platform or its users.
Engage in harassment, bullying, threatening, or abusive behaviour toward any other user, or post content that is abusive, hateful, or otherwise harmful.
Use the platform for any unlawful purpose, or in any way that infringes the rights of others (including intellectual-property, privacy, or data-protection rights), or that breaches any applicable law.

4. Using the AI tutor responsibly

The AI tutor is an optional, paid, opt-in add-on; it is off until a parent chooses and pays for it, and a child can use the platform fully without it. It is intended only for help with mathematics. When using it, you must not:

Attempt to make the tutor produce unsafe, harmful, illegal, or otherwise inappropriate content, or use it for anything other than maths help.
Attempt to extract personal data about yourself or any other person through the tutor.
Attempt prompt-injection, "jailbreak", or similar attempts to bypass the tutor's instructions, safety measures, or intended behaviour.

The tutor is an AI helper, not a person, and its output may be wrong — see the AI Tutor Notice. If a child types something suggesting they may be at risk, we do not silently ignore it; we respond under our Safeguarding Statement.

5. Consequences of breaching this policy

If you breach this AUP, we may take action that is proportionate to the breach, including issuing a warning, suspending your access, or terminating your account, in line with the Terms of Service. Where a breach is serious, or raises a safety concern, we may escalate it — including, where appropriate, under our Safeguarding Statement.

We may also take steps to protect the platform and other users, such as blocking automated access or removing infringing content.

6. How to report misuse

If you see conduct that breaches this policy, a safety concern, or suspected unauthorised access, please tell us at mail@physmat.org. Safety concerns about a child are handled under our Safeguarding Statement.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this AUP. If we make a material change, we will tell affected users in an age-appropriate way before it takes effect. The "last updated" date at the top shows the current version.
